SIMPLE TUTORIAL: GOLD EXPLOSION NAIL ART TUTORIAL – Jane at NailSide‘s cool explosion nail art takes me back to the days when Wonder Woman and Batman ruled the TV airwaves. Her pictural tutorial really helps you see exactly how to do this manicure. She also has several different variations to show the difference in color choice.
STEP 1: Basecoat – to protect your nails and create a surface that nail polish bonds to.
STEP 2. 2 coats of your favorite turquoise polish
STEP 3: Cut squares of cellophane (Scotch) tape.
STEP 4: Cut those squares diagonally creating two triangles.
STEP 5: Stick the tape to your nails creating the explosion shape
STEP 6: Paint the exposed area with your favorite gold polish
STEP 7: Let the polish set for about a minute, then remove the tape, pulling toward the gold paint.
STEP 8: Topcoat – To seal in your design and give it a high gloss shine. Remember to topcoat the free edge and underside. This extends wear and reduces water absorption, which causes peeling and chipping.
TIP: Use the shiny cellophane tape (not matte). Jane recommends keeping the explosion at the nail tip. It’s easier to paint away from your cuticle.
Tori at Lachesis and Co. was also inspired by Jane. I’m loving the holographic glitter under the purple. Tori appears to be an avid lacquer gal on her Tumblr page.
